Chief engraver for the U.S. Mint in 1963 was Gilroy Roberts who designed the obverse of the Kennedy Half Dollar. Frank Gasparro designed the reverse of the half dollar using the Presidential Coat of Arms. This half dollar replaced the Franklin half dollar after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, and was put into circulation in 1964.
