Stone Mountain Silver Half Dollars

1925

This commemorative coin features General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson and General Robert E. Lee, Confederate army leaders of Civil War fame. They are shown mounted on horseback on the obverse. The first coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint on January 21, 1925, General “Stonewall” Jackson’s birthday. The funds received from the sale of this issue were devoted to the expense of carving figures of Confederate leaders and soldiers on Stone Mountain in Georgia. The carving was completed and dedicated in 1970.

Composition: 90% Silver, 10% Copper Alloy
