Fractional Currency was issued by the United States from 1862 to 1875. During the Civil War, the hoarding of coins required the U.S. Government to issue the making of this interesting short-lived series of notes. Notes were issued in denominations of 3, 5, 10, 15, 25, and 50 cents. There were 28 different, major types of these unusual notes issued. They remain legal tender to this day.
The front of this 50 cent, 1st and 2nd issue notes features various portraits of President George Washington. The reverse detailing on this note is unique and beautiful, showing the rules for redemption and value.
Note sold in a deluxe currency protective sleeve.
